My 2 Jeeps were not fit for the job of commuting an hour each way. I originally wanted a “cheap beater” that was fuel efficient and cheap. While shopping, I discovered that a little extra money gets a much better car. This is how I eventually decided to purchase a 2012 Acura TSX.
The search went like this:
$3000 Honda civics – Driving but no A/C
$4000-$6000 – Driving with A/C
$6000-$8000 – Newer model with more comfort features
$8000-$10,000 – Upgrade to Acura (luxury Honda)
As you can see, my vehicle searching quickly escalated. I justified the increase by reminding myself that I would be spending 2 HOURS per day in this car.
I found a 2012 special edition Acura TSX with 87,000 miles for $10,000. It had a fancy interior, upgraded features, and didn’t look like a basic commuter car.
I drove this car for 7 years and 82,000 miles and sold it for $10,000
I told myself that I would not modify my commuter car. However, some minor cosmetic upgrades would make my commute that much more enjoyable.
